Northern Lights Tour with Local Guide and Photos

Spend an evening searching for the Northern Lights from Tromsø with local guides from Northern Norway. We look for clear skies and the best conditions available, helping our guests experience the Arctic landscapes, the Northern Lights and the atmosphere that develops when the Arctic sky comes alive. Small groups, Arctic hospitality and professional photography are part of every tour.

Northern Lights Tour Overview

Leave the city lights behind and join a small-group Northern Lights experience run by local guides from Northern Norway.

Together with an experienced Arctic driver, we head out into the Arctic night in a comfortable Mercedes Sprinter minibus, in search of clear skies and the Aurora Borealis. Every evening is different — the route is chosen based on the latest weather forecasts, cloud conditions and aurora activity. We may travel along the coast, into inland valleys, or across the border to Finland or Sweden. We go where the conditions are best.

The search itself is part of the experience. As the evening unfolds, we make stops along the way, read the sky, and adapt our plans continuously. Your guide will share stories about life in Arctic Norway and explain the science behind the Northern Lights — adding depth to what you see above you.

When the aurora appears, your guide will work with you to capture the moment through portrait photography beneath the Arctic sky. Throughout the evening we also photograph the lights and the surrounding landscape.

During the tour we serve hot drinks — coffee, tea, hot chocolate and blackcurrant juice — alongside traditional Norwegian snacks and homemade cake baked fresh for every tour.

At the end of the evening, we return guests to central locations in Tromsø. Drop-off is available at the original pick-up point, hotels located in the city centre, the Tromsø Library, or the central taxi rank. For guests staying in Tromsdalen, we also offer drop-off at the Arctic Cathedral (Ishavskatedralen) or at Pyramiden. Drop-off locations are coordinated by the guide during the tour to ensure a safe and efficient return for all guests.

Know Before You Go

✓ Please arrive 15 minutes before departure for check-in and important tour information.

✓ Bring your ID or passport. We may cross the border to Finland during the tour.

✓ Dress warmly with thermal layers, winter outerwear, a hat and gloves.

✓ No luggage storage is available on the tour.

✓ We usually make 1–2 restroom stops during the evening. In remote areas, nature may need to be used if facilities are not available.

✓ The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed. No refunds are provided if the Northern Lights are not visible.

✓ The tour operates in most weather conditions. If we need to cancel due to weather or driving conditions, a full refund will be provided.

✓ We may travel significant distances, including to Finland or Sweden, if weather conditions require it.

✓ The tour may involve short walks from the minibus. Walking surfaces may be snowy, icy or uneven, and guests should be comfortable walking on winter terrain.

✓ Alcohol is not permitted on the tour. Intoxicated guests may be refused participation without a refund.

I had an absolutely amazing experience with Arctic Glow and couldn’t have asked for better guides than Kine and Geir Inge. This was my very first time seeing the northern lights, and it turned into a truly unforgettable night. Even though the weather forecast was poor and the skies were very cloudy, their experience and dedication really showed. They carefully searched for the best pockets of clear sky and never gave up. Thanks to their knowledge and persistence, we finally witnessed the aurora and it was magical. Beyond that, they were warm, friendly, and made everyone feel comfortable throughout the tour. You can tell they genuinely care about giving their guests the best possible experience. If you’re hoping to see the northern lights, I highly recommend Arctic Glow and especially Kine and Geir Inge. They made a dream come true for me!

The trip was amazing and perfect for a visit to Norway and Tromso we would highly reccomend! Our guide Inge was a true local who was passionate and knowledgeable. The transport was easy and smooth - pick up in town centre with Inge explaining how we would ‘hunt’ for the lights and why certain paths would be taken etc. We did the tour in late February and we were lucky enough to see the lights in 4 different locations - a highlight being the first that Inge found a spot where we got to enter a snow field and got a beautiful view of them - this was a great touch as it was a spectacular view and proved how serious Inge was on ensuring the group saw the northern lights. Inge and team also provided us with scientific explanations of the lights as well as snacks and lucky for us Inge even dropped us back at our accomodation at 2am after the chase for the lights all night! We could not be happier we chose this tour and really appreciated the personal touch provided by Inge - 10/10

Once in a lifetime experience! mars 2026 • Familie Absolutely incredible northern lights tour—easily the highlight of our trip. Our guides were born and raised on an island north of Tromsø, so their local knowledge really showed. The conditions were challenging with lots of clouds, rain, and snow, but they kept searching and adjusting locations until we found clear breaks—and were rewarded with amazing views of the lights. It really is all about patience! They stopped a couple of times before finding the perfect spot, and the effort paid off. We had several chances to get photos taken, and they turned out fantastic—something we’ll treasure. Transportation was comfortable in a Mercedes Sprinter, and they also provided sandwiches, chocolate cake, plus hot chocolate and tea, which made the whole experience even better. Truly a memorable and well-run tour.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐We joined the Northern Lights tour with Geir Inge and Kine, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. They were incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and generous in sharing stories and insights about the Northern Lights and the surrounding nature. They were also very patient and helpful when taking photos, making sure everyone had beautiful memories to take home. We were lucky to see the Northern Lights almost immediately after departure, and then chased several spots where we witnessed pink auroras dancing across the sky. The entire sky was filled with Northern Lights, absolutely breathtaking, romantic, and surreal. The homemade pastries were delicious and such a thoughtful touch. On top of that, they kindly helped us with restroom stops and even made sure everyone was safely dropped off afterward. It was a joyful, unforgettable night, and we were extremely satisfied with the whole experience. Highly recommended!!!!!

A personal northern lights tour with a Norwegian flare. Our two guides were fantastic, knowledgable and passionate. They gave us a lot of information about how the northern lights are formed. It was lovely because in our five days in Tromso, with multiple tours booked, they were the only Norwegian guides we had. This made it special as they could tell us more about living in and around Tromso and growing up on a northern island. They also gave us Norwegian snacks - brown cheese on rye bread and a homemade cake! That was needed. It was not the best night for the lights, however, they took us to a remote place and waited until they arrived. We were not disappointed. They took photos of us and helped to get the settings right on my own camera to see them clearly. After the solar activity finished, we slowly made our way back to the city. The guides kept stopping to check we were not missing anything

Amazeballs! HOLY WOW! This was our 3rd Northern Lights tour on this trip but the first with this company and this one was by far, hands down THE BEST! Do not waste your money with another company because it doesn’t get better than this. Our tour guides were super friendly and professional. They took us to 2 locations where the lights were very active. SUCCESS! The van was comfortable and warm and the extra treats (hot chocolate, bread, cheese & cake) were above and beyond expectations. My only regret is that I didn’t book with this company first!

This is the right choice if you want the best of northern lights experience. This Northern Lights tour was absolutely unforgettable. I read other travelers reviews and I chose it because of the guides. Geir Inge and Kine Mikkelsen, there were the reason it became so special. They were passionate, caring, and truly loved what they did. Everything was perfectly organized from pick up till drop off. They offered hot drinks, snacks specially the homemade cake. The bus was very comfortable and new. They made everyone feel comfortable and even helped capture the most beautiful photos. They super professionals in taking photos. I love all the photos from the tour. Watching the sky come alive with green light was pure magic, something I’ll never forget. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a real, heartfelt Northern Lights experience.

The small minibus tour is more expensive than the large bus tours, but it’s absolutely worth it. The vehicle was comfortable and the guide was friendly, passionate, and very professional. We drove north to an island with clear skies and were lucky enough to see beautiful northern lights. The guides took many photos for us at no extra cost (another large bus tour I joined only offered one free photo) and also gave helpful tips for camera settings. We could warm up inside the bus while waiting, and blankets were provided. They also offered excellent Norwegian snacks (sandwiches and cake) and hot drinks. At the end of the night, drop-off at hotels located in the city center was provided. Highly recommended for a comfortable and memorable northern lights experience.

We enjoyed the first tour so much that we booked a second one. Both times the weather forecast, especially the cloud cover, did not look very promising but Inge and Kine still managed to show us beautiful northern lights on both nights. On the first tour we found a great spot and stayed there for the evening. We could warm up in the bus whenever we wanted and the guides let us know whenever the lights appeared. The second tour felt more like a real chase. We stopped at several locations and sometimes the lights were faint or disappeared quickly. But Inge and Kine did not give up and in the end we were rewarded with a beautiful last show of the northern lights. What makes these tours special is that you often visit remote places without big crowds and the guides take time to talk with guests so you always feel well taken care of.

Amazing Northern Lights tour! The guide was kind, friendly, and truly dedicated to giving us the best possible experience. Very professional with photography — he helped us with camera and phone settings and took stunning photos, which he later shared with us. We joined the tour on two consecutive nights. Even when the second night was cloudier, the guide went the extra mile, driving farther to find clearer skies. I’ve been on several Northern Lights tours, but the tour with Arctic Glow and Inge & Kine was clearly the best one so far – so good that I actually did it twice. ✨☺️ We were picked up in a modern and very comfortable Mercedes bus, and then the Northern Lights chase began. Inge put a lot of effort into finding the best possible spot, and his experience really showed. Once the Northern Lights appeared, Inge took beautiful, high-quality photos, which were shared with us after the tour - a wonderful memory to keep. 📸 Kine took great care of us with hot chocolate and delicious homemade snacks, making the evening even more cozy and enjoyable. ☕🍪 Both of them are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and you feel comfortable with them right away.
